Few months ago, I discovered the unique character of Mr. Ducktail the famous Demon Barber of Carnaby St London. This came about by coincidence as the photoshoot opportunity was posted online in a photography related forum I participate in when I find spare time, to teach young upcoming photographers. Doing bit of research about who Mr. Ducktail, it revealed to me that this opportunity was going to be quite interesting since Mr. Ducktail seemed to have a very unique character and style that was not commonly seen in your typical barber shop.
So I arranged a meeting Mr. Ducktail, and few days later, there I was standing in front of his business premise at Carnaby Street, and as soon as I set foot in Mr. Ducktail place, I knew that the atmosphere was as unique as the information posted online about the famous demon barber of Carnaby Street ‘Mr. Ducktail’. The whole atmosphere of the barber shop combined with Mr. Ducktail’s personality made me think and imagine ‘Sweeney Todd has just arrived back in London (but in a different time period as a Rockabilly barber).
Ok I will keep this post short and just post the final photographs we came up from the photo-sessions with Mr. Ducktail. In the next post I will be covering the technical aspects of the photo-shoot “lighting, composition and camera settings“. I’d like to mention that I ended up using 6 x speedlights controlled remote pocketwizard system. So stay tune if you want to learn how you too can achieve the look and mood seen within these images.
